This 7-pin trailer plug is designed to connect the trailer’s electrical system to the socket on the towing vehicle. The male connector is attached to the end of the trailer’s cable and plugs into the female socket on the tow vehicle. The 7-Pin Trailer Plug – Male, Plastic is a standard Type N connector (per ISO 1724) commonly used across Europe for light and medium trailers. It ensures that all the trailer’s lights (indicators, brakes, tail lights, license plate illumination, etc.) receive power and signals from the vehicle.
The plug’s housing is made of impact-resistant black plastic that will not rust. The rear of the plug has a cable entry with an integrated rubber grommet and clamp, which secures the cable and prevents water from reaching the electrical connections. Inside, each of the 7 pins corresponds to a screw terminal where the stripped end of the respective wire is fastened. The plug’s prongs are crafted from conductive metal with a corrosion-resistant coating for optimal connectivity.
- Reliable Performance: Once properly wired and plugged in, the connector provides a stable electrical link with no interruptions. The design prevents accidental disconnection – the tow vehicle’s socket lid and the lip of the plug interlock to ensure the plug won’t shake loose due to vibrations.
- Compatible with 12V/24V: Can be used with standard 12-volt car systems as well as 24-volt systems (for trucks and buses), since it simply carries signals without altering voltage. Just make sure the trailer’s light bulbs are appropriately rated if switching between 12V and 24V systems.
- Practical Use: Ideal for building a new trailer wiring setup or replacing an old or damaged plug. If your old plug has cracked or corroded from weather or wear, this replacement will restore a reliable connection between your vehicle and trailer.
- Usage Tips: When wiring, be careful to match the wire colors to the correct pin numbers (by standard: yellow – left indicator, green – right indicator, brown – right tail, black – left tail, red – brake, white – ground, blue – fog/auxiliary). Tighten the terminal screws firmly to ensure good contact for each circuit.
- Heavy-Duty Alternative: For very frequent use, long-distance hauling, or industrial applications, we also offer metal-body 7-pin plugs. However, this plastic model meets the needs of most users, providing light weight, corrosion resistance, and easy maintenance.
