This steel roller pin serves as the axle on which the trailer’s roller is mounted and spins. It is engineered to withstand high loads and is coated with galvanization to prevent rusting even after prolonged water exposure. The pin is inserted through the center of the roller, and its ends are secured to the bracket (base) using either a nut with lock-washer or a cotter pin. This ensures the roller remains firmly in place and is safeguarded against coming loose.
The pin comes in two length variants to meet the needs of different roller sizes:
– Short pin (code 01549): suitable for shorter rollers up to ~160 mm in length. Used, for example, with standard keel rollers ~120–150 mm long.
– Long pin (code 01551): intended for longer rollers up to ~200 mm length. Applied for larger rollers, providing sufficient length for proper fastening.
Both versions have a diameter of ~19 mm, matching the inner bore of most keel rollers. Many roller models include a bushing precisely for this axle size. During installation, the necessary hardware is typically provided – for instance, a nut and washer to tighten on the threaded end of the pin, or a hole for a cotter pin on smooth axle pins. This guarantees that once installed, the pin will not loosen or back out while the trailer is in motion.
- Axle Function: serves as a sturdy axle allowing the roller to spin freely as the boat is loaded or unloaded
- Corrosion Resistant: hot-dip galvanized – can remain wet (even in saltwater) without rusting, which is critical for safety and longevity
- Compatibility: fits galvanized keel roller bases (codes 01548/01550) and other standard roller brackets/holders
- Easy Installation: simply slide the pin through the roller and bracket holes; secure quickly with the included nut or cotter pin for a locked fit
- Size Options: two available lengths ensure you choose the right size – neither too short (which could fail to secure) nor too long (which could protrude inconveniently)
