The PCU Remote Control (Pro Charge Ultra remote panel) is a specially designed accessory for the Sterling Pro Charge Ultra line of professional battery chargers. It gives you a second “control center” for the charger, located wherever it’s most convenient for you. The panel provides comprehensive information: it continuously displays the current battery voltage, the charging current being delivered by the charger, as well as indicators for the charging stage. For example, you’ll see whether the charger is in Bulk (fast charge), Absorption (top-off), or Float (maintenance) mode. This gives you full clarity on the status of your batteries at a glance.
Beyond monitoring, the panel offers remote access to functions: using the interface buttons, you can toggle the charger’s settings. For instance, if you want to engage quiet night mode (reducing current and noise) just before bedtime, you can do it right from the cabin. Or, if you are switching battery types (say from flooded lead-acid to AGM), you can select the appropriate charging profile from the remote without having to touch the charger unit itself. This is especially handy when the charger is installed in a hard-to-reach spot.
Safety & Alerts: The built-in alarm features keep you informed of any irregularities. The panel can display a warning if the charger or battery temperature gets too high (if using the temperature sensor), or if an error occurs – for instance, a battery with a bad cell, input voltage too low, or other issues. Rather than discovering a problem only when it’s too late, you’ll be notified immediately and can take action – such as turning off the charger, starting the engine to aid charging, improving ventilation in the engine room, etc., depending on the situation.
Flexible Installation: The panel comes with a 10 m cable, which in most cases is more than enough for any boat up to roughly 50–60 feet (for larger vessels, the cable can be extended as needed – consult the manual). The cable plugs straight into a dedicated port on the Pro Charge Ultra charger – it’s a plug-and-play setup with no complicated configuration. The panel’s dimensions (approximately 11 x 6.8 cm / 4.3" x 2.7") make it convenient to mount on a dashboard among other instruments (for example, near your navigation instrument displays or alongside other electrical panels). The manufacturer has provided for flush-mounting – the panel can sit nearly flush with the surface, giving a professional, built-in appearance. If cutting a recess isn’t feasible, it can also be surface-mounted using the provided frame and screws. The enclosure is sleek, UV-resistant, and made of high-quality plastic, ensuring it will hold up for years even with exposure to sunlight and salty air.
Everyday Advantages: Imagine you’re cruising on your yacht during a long passage. With the remote panel, in the morning as you have coffee in the cockpit, you can quickly glance at the panel and see: “Batteries are at 13.6V, charger is putting out 5A – which means the batteries are nearly full and the charger has transitioned to float.” You get this info without ever going down to the engine room. Or at night, in a quiet anchorage, you might hear the charger’s fan running – instead of switching the charger off completely (and stopping charging), you can simply press the night mode button on the remote panel, and the fan will stop as the charger goes to half power. The comfort and control this accessory adds is something every skipper will appreciate.
Compatibility: This remote panel is compatible with all Pro Charge Ultra charger models (for example, 12V 30A, 40A, 60A and the corresponding 24V models in that series) that support remote functionality (Sterling part code PCU-R or R10). It’s important to note that it is not designed for the Pro Charge Ultra Lite series – the Lite models use a different, simpler remote. Thus, this panel is an add-on for the full-featured Pro Charge Ultra chargers only.
