This heavy-duty trailer coupler is engineered for the secure attachment of heavy trailers to your vehicle’s hitch. The reinforced design means the coupler’s body and mechanism are built thicker and stronger, allowing towing of up to 3000 kg without bending or excessive play. The 35–51 mm range refers to the size of the trailer’s tongue (drawbar) that the coupler can mount on – this coupler is versatile because it covers the most common profiles. It typically achieves this via multiple bolt hole positions or an adjustable clamp, enabling a tight fit on both smaller round tongues (~35-40 mm diameter) and standard square tubes (around 50 mm across).

The coupling socket is the standard 50 mm size: that’s the European tow ball dimension, so this coupler will latch onto any certified 50 mm hitch ball. The locking mechanism is lever-actuated – by pressing or lifting the handle, the internal jaw clamps onto the ball. This model includes a wear/engagement indicator (often a colored pin or marking) that shows when the ball is properly seated and if the mechanism has any excessive wear. This helps the user ensure the trailer is safely hitched before driving off.

Safety and additional features: The heavy-duty coupler also offers a hole where you can insert a padlock or special hitch lock (see Product #4) – allowing you to lock the trailer when parked or even while hitched, for extra security. The entire coupler is treated against corrosion – galvanized steel or a heavy-duty protective coating – which is especially important for boat trailers used in and out of water.

Usage & Recommendations:

• For heavy trailers: Recommended for boats around 7–9 m in length, large caravans, or utility trailers up to 3000 kg GVW, where standard couplers might be at their limit
• Check compatibility: Ensure your trailer’s tongue diameter or width falls between 35 mm and 51 mm – within this range the coupler will mount securely and perform optimally
• Installation: Attach the coupler using high-tensile bolts (if not included, use Grade 8.8 or 10.9 bolts) through the provided holes. After mounting, tighten all nuts firmly and verify the coupler is aligned straight with the trailer frame
• Maintenance: Periodically lubricate the moving parts of the coupler (hinge, spring, etc.) with a bit of grease or anti-rust spray to ensure smooth lever action and long service life
• Every hitch-up: Use the indicator – if it shows green/“locked”, also perform a pull test (raising the trailer jack slightly to see if the coupler stays attached) to confirm it’s securely latched on the ball. Always secure the handle with a safety pin or lock during transit
