This heavy-duty deck-mounted chain stopper (large size for Ø10–12 mm chain) is designed to keep your anchor chain securely locked in place while at anchor, protecting your equipment and enhancing safety. Made entirely of marine-grade AISI 316 stainless steel, the stopper resists corrosion and is built to withstand high loads. The mirror-polished finish not only looks great but also reduces wear on the chain and rope that may rub against it.
Installed on the deck (typically between the windlass and bow roller), the stopper uses a hinged pawl or hook to grab a chain link firmly. By doing so, the entire weight of the anchor and the tension in the rode are transferred to the stopper instead of the windlass gypsy. This is especially critical in strong winds, waves, or when anchoring for extended periods – the stopper prevents any unwanted chain payout and shields the windlass from overload.
Usage: Once you have paid out the desired length of chain and the anchor is set, engage the stopper on the nearest chain link. It locks the chain in place, preventing accidental release or movement. When retrieving the anchor, the stopper is easily disengaged to allow the windlass to raise the chain. This model is intended for larger boats and yachts (roughly 9–12 m and above) that use 10 or 12 mm chain and heavy anchors (~20–25+ kg). Using a chain stopper prolongs the life of your windlass and chain and adds an extra layer of security – your anchor stays firmly held even as conditions change.
