This stainless steel hinge connector (often called a “joint” or “knuckle”) is designed to replace or supplement the folding mechanism of boat boarding ladders. It allows the ladder to bend at a certain point or to be attached/detached from the boat as needed. Crafted from corrosion-resistant steel, it’s ideal for use in both saltwater and freshwater environments with no risk of rusting.
The clamp diameter is Ø25 mm, corresponding to a very common tubing size for marine ladders. (Model 00583-25 is for 25 mm; if required, the manufacturer offers other versions for different tube diameters.) This joint installs directly onto the ladder’s side rails – typically at the top of the movable section – using bolts or rivets through pre-drilled holes.
Once installed, the hinge allows smooth folding action: for example, a ladder can be swung up onto the transom when not needed, and dropped down when in use. In combination with the separately available mounting base (code 00582), this component forms a system wherein the ladder is firmly secured to the boat but can be completely detached for storage. This is particularly useful for portable ladders on inflatable boats or small yachts – whenever you want to remove the ladder so it doesn’t interfere or to prevent loss/damage while underway.
- Compatibility: Designed primarily for ladders by EVAL or similar models, but due to the standard diameter and universal design it can fit many other manufacturers’ ladders using Ø25 mm tubing.
- Use case: Ideal for transom or gunwale ladders that you might want to remove as needed – for instance, a swim ladder that can be taken off during cruising to reduce drag or avoid damage.
- Mounting system: For a complete setup, it is recommended to use this joint together with a 25 mm mounting base – the base attaches to the transom, and the hinge attaches to the ladder. This way, you can quickly clip the ladder on or off without tools whenever required.
- Made of stainless steel (likely AISI 304) with a polished finish – strong enough to bear the weight of a person repeatedly. Unfazed by wet conditions; ensures the mechanism will last for many seasons.
- A small yet handy component that can restore the functionality of an old folding ladder or upgrade a fixed ladder into a removable/folding one – a valuable addition to increase the versatility of your boat’s equipment.
