This elastic tie-down with two balls is a versatile fastening solution both on the boat and around the home. It consists of a strong bungee shock cord attached to two solid plastic balls – one on each end. This design allows you to quickly “lock” the cord around an object by using the balls themselves as anchors instead of relying on hooks or knots. The result is speed, convenience, and reliability, especially appreciated when strapping down boat covers, securing gear, or bundling items.

How to use:

  1. Wrap: Place the bungee around whatever you want to secure – for example, loop it around a support pole, through a canvas grommet, or around a rolled-up bundle of material.
  2. Lock: Pull one ball toward the opposite end of the loop created by the cord and feed it through that loop. Once you release, the elastic cord tries to retract, the ball catches in the loop and locks it tight. Essentially, one ball acts as a “stop” that prevents the loop from slipping back.
  3. Secure: If needed, you can further secure by looping the cord an additional turn over the ball (especially with the longer cord or if the material is slick) to increase the friction and hold.

When the bungee cord is locked in this way, you get a firm yet flexible hold. It keeps tension – under load it can stretch a bit (acting like a spring) and then pull back, maintaining pressure. This is extremely useful for boat covers: it allows the cover to give a little in gusts or movement, without coming undone or tearing.

Use case scenarios:

  • Inflatable and RIB boat covers: Many inflatable dinghies and RIBs lack built-in cover fasteners. With this double-ball bungee, you can run the cord under the hull or around the inflatable tubes and secure it to hold a cover in place. The two-ball design lets you quickly connect the two ends of the cord beneath the boat – just pull them together and loop. This snugs the cover down without sliding.
  • Canopies and Bimini tops: Great for temporarily stowing rolled-up side curtains or securing a folded bimini. Wrap the bungee around the coiled fabric and lock it with the balls. It will keep the canvas bundle neatly in place, even if the boat is underway.
  • Securing gear and equipment: Use these cords to strap items on deck or on a roof rack. The double-ball feature means the cord can self-secure into a loop, keeping packages or coils tightly together. For example, coiled ropes, rolled tarps, or camping equipment can be cinched with this tie for easy handling and neat storage.
  • Camping and home: They’re handy for pitching tarps or tents – instead of tying rope, just lock the bungee with its ball at the desired tension. Also perfect for cinching patio furniture covers, barbecue grill covers, etc., where typical ropes get loose; these elastic ties keep things taut.

Advantages of the double-ball design:

  • Two attachment points: Unlike classic ball bungees that have a ball on one end and a loop on the other, this has a ball on both ends. That gives you more flexibility – you can span a larger object or use each ball separately as an anchor on two different points. For example, you could insert each ball into two adjacent grommets on a cover from opposite sides, effectively clamping the cover between them.
  • Extended reach if needed: If you have two cords, you can actually join them end-to-end by looping one cord’s ball through the other’s loop, effectively making a longer tie. The balls provide a nice, thick grip that won’t easily slip out.
  • Quick release: Unlike a knot that might jam tight, releasing this tie is easy – just pull the ball back out of the loop, and the cord is free. Even with cold, wet hands or gloves on, the large smooth ball is easy to grab and manipulate.

Material & Durability: The cord itself is a multi-strand elastic bungee with a braided outer jacket (typically polypropylene or polyester). This outer sheath protects the inner rubber strands from UV exposure and wear-and-tear, and it adds a bit of buoyancy – hence the cord tends to float. The plastic balls are made of hard, UV-stabilized polymer that won’t crack or degrade easily. They are solid enough to withstand pulling and impact (if they snap back or bounce on deck) and are usually colored in a neutral black/grey that doesn’t show dirt or discolor easily.

Sizes: We offer two standard lengths:

  • 40 cm length: Best for smaller boats or tighter spaces. E.g., lashing a cover on a small dinghy or securing loose items. When stretched, it can expand to roughly 60–70 cm or more.
  • 60 cm length: Provides more reach – used for larger boats or wider spans. Stretches out to about 90–100 cm. Excellent for big RIBs, covering larger equipment, or strapping down bulky cargo.

When choosing, consider the circumference or distance you need to span – the elastic can safely elongate to roughly 1.5 times its length without overstress. If in doubt, go for the longer size since you can always wrap the balls around more to effectively shorten it.

Safety note: Bungee cords are under tension – take care when releasing so the ball doesn’t snap back suddenly. Hold it securely and guide it out of the loop. Inspect the cord regularly – if the outer braid is frayed or the inner elastic is failing, replace the cord (it’s an inexpensive item to swap out for safety).

In summary, the double-ball bungee cord is a simple yet ingenious tool for quick tie-down and organization. It’s flexible in both a literal and practical sense – adapting to countless needs. From the yacht captain to the home handyman, everyone can benefit from its convenience – no knots to tie, no metal hooks to rust or scratch, just elastic tension and a clever design.
