This Ø5 mm plastic washer is designed to serve as a backing pad when driving screws through fabric or other materials on your boat. When attaching a cover, canopy, or accessory with a screw, adding this washer under the screw head greatly improves the strength and longevity of the fastening. The washer distributes the force evenly exerted by the screw over a broader area – preventing the concentrated pressure that could tear or deform the canvas/material around the screw. Additionally, the plastic washer acts as a buffer between the metal screw and the fabric, reducing chafe and abrasion under vibration.
Made from high-quality plastic, the washer won’t absorb water and will not rust. Unlike metal washers, there’s no risk of corrosion or staining. The 5 mm hole size easily slips over standard screws with roughly 5 mm thread diameter. It is suited for flat-head screws (especially countersunk heads), featuring a flat, wide shape – ideal for screws used to secure snap fasteners, canvas eyelets, brackets, etc. to the hull or frame.
Application: For example, when installing a snap button with a screw, you would first slide a plastic washer onto the screw before driving it through the fabric into the base. The washer will sit between the screw head and the canvas, protecting the cloth. Similarly, if you are fastening a tarpaulin or cover directly with screws onto a wooden or fiberglass surface, placing a washer under each screw head will reinforce the hole and prevent tear-out around it under tension.
We offer these washers in two colors – white and black – to suit different uses. White washers are nearly invisible against light-colored canvases or white structures, while black ones are preferred for dark covers or black frames. They are lightweight and easy to use, yet significantly enhance the reliability of your installation. Adding a plastic washer is a small step that protects your gear and textiles from damage, ensuring your covers and their attachment points last longer.
