Inflatable Boat Rub Rail (PVC, 24 mm Height) – Protective Profile Black/Grey

Code:
00893-B

PVC rub rail profile for inflatable boats with 24 mm height, designed to reinforce and protect the sides of your inflatable’s tube. Made of flexible PVC, this profile guards against impacts and abrasion during boat-to-boat contact or docking. It prevents water from seeping into the tube seams and doubles as a track for attaching canvas clips and accessories. Available in black, dark grey, or light grey, as well as two base width options (75 mm or 95 mm) to suit your needs. Key features:

  • Profile Size: 24 mm height; offered with base widths of ~75 mm or ~95 mm for different coverage levels
  • Material: Soft PVC (flexible and shock-absorbing) – gentle on inflatable tubes; UV-stabilized to resist fading
  • Purpose: Shields the sides of inflatable boats, RIBs, and tenders from scratches, bumps, and chafe
  • Extra Function: Stops water from tracking into the tube seams; allows mounting of canopy clips, covers, or lines along the side
  • Installation: Glued onto the boat’s fabric (PVC or Hypalon) using appropriate adhesive; the profile is flexible to follow the tube’s curvature

This PVC rub rail (24 mm height) is specially designed for inflatable boats and RIBs, providing protection and reinforcement for the sides of the inflatable tubes. Running along the boat’s length, the rub strake takes the initial impact when bumping against another boat or dock, protecting the tube from abrasion and cuts. The flexible PVC deforms upon impact and spreads the force over a larger area, thereby protecting the tube’s seams from excessive stress.

It serves a dual purpose: besides acting as a fender, this rub rail also functions as a seam cover – by overlapping the joint between tube sections, it hinders water from seeping into the seams and reduces wear on the adhesive beneath. The profile’s top side features a slight lip or channel that allows you to attach various accessories – for example, canvas snaps for a sprayhood or cover, or even additional grab handles.

Width options: Two base widths are available – approximately 75 mm for standard coverage and 95 mm for extra-wide coverage. The wider profile (95 mm) provides a greater contact surface, suitable for larger inflatables and maximum protection, whereas the narrower (75 mm) is sufficient for smaller dinghies, offering lighter weight and more flexibility.

Color choices (black, dark grey, light grey) ensure you can match the rub rail to your boat’s color or existing trim. A black rub rail gives a classic look and hides scuffs well, while grey options (dark or light) may match original factory colors on certain inflatable models.

Installation is done using specialized boat adhesive (e.g., a 2-part polyurethane glue appropriate for your boat’s fabric – PVC or Hypalon). The profile is measured and cut to the required length, then glued on in sections – it’s recommended to apply adhesive both to the rail and the boat, wait per instructions, then press firmly in place. After application, the boat should remain still for the adhesive’s curing period as specified.

Applications and recommendations:

  • Small inflatables and tenders: The 24 mm rub rail is perfect for boats around 2–4 m (6–13 ft), where you need protection from abrasion during beaching or rafting up, but also want a profile that is lightweight and highly flexible
  • Mid-sized RIBs: For larger RIBs (5–8 m or ~16–26 ft), the rub rail (especially the 95 mm wide version) provides added protection along the full length of the tube – recommended for commercial use or frequent boating where the boat may contact piers, pilings, or other boats
  • Maintenance: The PVC rub strake is easy to clean – rinse with water and mild soap after use to remove salt and grime. Periodically inspect the adhesive bond, especially after any hard knocks; if a section starts to peel, dry the area and re-glue as needed
  • Replacing old rub strakes: If your boat’s original tube guards are worn, this product is an excellent replacement or upgrade – it improves upon factory protection and can extend the life of your inflatable tubes
  • Tip: When gluing the rub rail, work in temperatures between 18-25°C (64-77°F) and avoid direct sunlight on the bonding surfaces for best adhesion. Use masking tape to mark the placement line along the tube – this helps ensure the rub rail goes on straight and even for the entire length
