This heavy-duty latching mechanism (82×25×14 mm) is engineered to meet the demands of the most critical onboard applications. It is made of top-grade AISI 316 stainless steel and serves as a complete locking handle assembly with an internal mechanism. Four mounting points (M4 bolts) ensure that the forces of closing and opening are distributed evenly, protecting the hatch and frame from distortion.

Two versions are available to cater to different security needs:

  • With built-in lock: This version includes a locking cylinder and comes with keys. It’s ideal for cabin doors or hatches leading to sensitive areas – for example, the main cabin, salon, or compartments with valuable equipment. The keyed option lets you physically lock the hatch, preventing unauthorized access when needed.
  • Without lock: This version acts as a strong lever latch without a key cylinder. It’s suitable when the primary goal is a secure closure rather than keyed security – for instance, an engine room hatch that must stay firmly shut during operation but is opened frequently for inspection.

Both versions share the same solid body and lever. When closed, an internal locking tongue engages into the striker plate, creating an exceptionally sturdy connection. In the non-locking mode, you release it simply by pulling/lifting the lever. In the locking mode, you first turn the key to unlock, then lift the lever to open.

Built for extreme conditions: The mechanism is tested to withstand heavy vibration, impact, and pressure. This makes it suitable for large motor yachts, commercial fishing boats, or offshore vessels where deck hatches endure pounding waves and even crew standing on them at times. Even under severe seas and hull flexing, the latched handle will not shake loose inadvertently.

Safety and convenience: The oversized lever provides good ergonomics – it can be gripped securely even with gloves or wet hands, which is crucial in critical moments. The locking mechanism is designed such that when closed, the lever doesn’t protrude excessively, to avoid snagging or accidental opening. The locking version prevents unauthorized entry, giving you peace of mind that when you leave the boat, important compartments remain secured.

Installation: Due to its high strength, the latch should be mounted on a solid surface. The four mounting holes (for M4 screws/bolts) provide stability – it’s recommended to use AISI 316 fasteners and apply sealant (like marine silicone) under the flange for a fully watertight installation.
