This aluminum-framed deck hatch combines a sleek appearance with functionality, designed to meet high standards of safety and comfort on board. The frame, made of high-strength aluminum, is anodized for marine use – meaning it resists corrosion and retains its good looks even after prolonged exposure to saltwater and sun. The lid of the hatch features tempered glass set into the frame. Tempered glass offers several advantages: increased strength (several times stronger than regular glass), safety (if ever shattered, it crumbles into small, non-sharp pieces), and clarity – it allows plenty of natural light below deck, making the cabin feel more spacious. At the same time, the glass is often tinted to reduce glare and UV ingress, protecting the interior and providing privacy.

Opening and Locking: The hatch opens from the top – it has two conveniently placed handles/knobs on the inside. Turning them unlocks the hatch so you can lift the lid. The built-in support arm (or gas strut, depending on model) automatically holds the hatch open, preventing it from slamming shut in wind or boat motion. This is especially useful for ventilating the cabin when the boat isn’t perfectly still. To close, the support stay is easily released and the lid pulled back down. In the closed position, a robust locking mechanism (via rotating handles or lever dogs) pulls the lid tight against the rubber seal. The all-around gasket ensures a 100% watertight seal – so rain or spray won’t find its way into the boat. The hatch is water-tested and can withstand wave impacts.

Sizes & Application: There are three versions of this hatch available to fit different openings and needs:

  • Small Hatch (176×230 mm cut-out / 230×285 mm external): A compact hatch suitable for smaller boats or as a head/shower hatch. Often installed on the roof of the forward cabin in boats ~5–6 m, it provides ventilation and light, as well as an emergency egress if necessary.
  • Medium Hatch (211×211 mm cut-out / 265×265 mm external): A mid-sized square hatch, very universal for many sailing yachts and motorboats (6–9 m). Typically used as the main hatch above the bow V-berth or salon, it offers light, air, and deck access to the cabin.
  • Large Hatch (260×260 mm cut-out / 315×315 mm external): A larger square hatch intended for yachts and cruisers over 9 m. This size allows easier entry/exit – it can function as an emergency escape hatch as well. It’s mounted securely on deck and provides maximum ventilation and daylight to the below-deck area.

Installation and Usage Tips: Installing the hatch requires cutting an opening of the appropriate size in the deck. The frame has pre-drilled holes for screws – use the provided (or recommended) stainless steel bolts to fasten it, applying marine sealant under the flange. This will ensure a waterproof interface between the frame and deck. After installation, the hatch should open and close smoothly; the rubber seal should compress evenly. Periodically clean the seal and apply silicone grease to keep it supple. The tempered glass/acrylic should be cleaned with a soft cloth and non-abrasive cleaner (avoid harsh chemicals that could cloud acrylic, if the lens is acrylic).

While underway, keep the hatch locked – this prevents unexpected opening and water ingress in case of heavy heel or waves. The sturdy hatch can also serve as an extra emergency exit: ensure its mechanism is easily accessible and operates reliably at all times. Mosquito nets (like Product 2 – hatch mosquito screen) can be used in conjunction with this hatch to keep insects out when the lid is open. With proper care, the aluminum hatch will remain functional and shiny for many years, enhancing your boat’s value and comfort.
