These PVC end caps are designed to provide a finished termination for your boat’s rub rail profile. Compatible with some of the most common rub rail sizes (approximately 50 mm profile height), the caps measuring 76.5 x 36.7 x 50 mm fit snugly onto the rail’s ends, sealing them off securely. Two color options – white and black – let you choose end pieces that blend in with the rub rail or hull color: use white for white/light-grey rails and hulls, or black for black/dark rails and hulls.
Installation is straightforward: the cut end of the rubber rail inserts into the cavity of the end cap, which typically features internal ridges or barbs to grip it. For extra security, you can use a small screw (through a provided hole in the cap into the rub rail’s track) or apply adhesive to hold the cap firmly in place and prevent it from sliding off due to vibrations. Once installed, the rub rail’s ends are protected from mechanical damage and water intrusion – this extends the life of the rail by keeping the internal backing dry and safeguarded.
In addition to their functional role, the end caps enhance the boat’s appearance: your vessel gains a finished look with no exposed raw edges of rubber showing. The smoothly rounded shape of the caps also prevents snagging of lines and avoids injuries if someone brushes against the rub rail’s end.
Applications and recommendations:
- Compatible profiles: Designed to fit two-part rub rail systems with insert track, or one-piece PVC rub rails, around 50 mm tall – ensure the dimensions match your boat’s rub rail profile before purchase
- Recommended use: When installing a new rub rail or replacing an old one, always finish the ends with matching end caps – this prevents the profile from “unwrapping” and provides a professional, OEM-quality finish
- White vs Black option: Use white caps for boats with light-colored gunwales or for a classic look (often preferred on yachts and sailboats). Black caps are perfect for RIBs, fishing boats, and modern powerboats with black rub rails or dark hull accents
- Easy replacement: If an end cap gets damaged over time, it’s simple to replace – just remove the retaining screw (if present) and slide off the old cap, then attach a new one in its place
- Tip: Apply a thin bead of sealant (marine silicone) on the inside of the end cap before final attachment – this will help create a watertight seal and dampen any vibration or rattling while underway
