Stainless Steel Bow Protector (1.5 mm) – Boat Bow Guard Shield

Code:
04246-1

Stainless steel bow guard (1.5 mm thick polished INOX) designed to shield your boat’s bow from scratches and impact when hauling the anchor or coming into contact with docks. Available in multiple sizes (small, medium, large) to fit various hull shapes and boat sizes. This highly polished protector defends the bow’s gelcoat or paint from damage and adds an elegant stainless steel accent to your boat. Key features:

  • Material: Polished marine-grade stainless steel – fully corrosion-resistant in saltwater environments
  • Thickness: 1.5 mm – thin enough to conform to the bow’s curve yet strong enough to absorb impacts
  • Sizes (options): Comes in three size options (different length and width) – suitable for small, mid-sized, and larger boats
  • Installation: Can be affixed with marine adhesive (for a clean, drill-free install) or with flush screws/rivets (depending on user preference)
  • Protection: Safeguards the bow stem when raising the anchor or if the chain swings; prevents chips and cracks in the bow area and stops water intrusion into hull laminates

The stainless steel bow protector is a specialized accessory for shielding the forward section of your boat’s hull. Fabricated from polished marine-grade stainless steel, this triangular guard mounts directly on the leading edge of the bow (stem), wrapping around both the bottom and part of the sides of the bow. At 1.5 mm thickness, the plate is flexible enough to contour to the bow’s shape, ensuring a snug fit with no sharp edges to catch lines or sails.

There are three sizes available to accommodate different boats:

  • Small size – approximately 265 mm length (A) by 345 mm width (B). Suitable for smaller craft (around 4–6 m or ~13–20 ft), such as RIB inflatables and jet boats, where the bow is shorter and more pointed.
  • Medium size – about 320 mm length (A) by 270 mm width (B). Ideal for mid-sized powerboats and fishing vessels (~6–7 m or ~20–24 ft) with a narrower bow profile.
  • Large size – roughly 350 mm length (A) by 345 mm width (B). Designed for larger boats and motor yachts (8–10 m or ~26–33 ft and above) that have a longer bow requiring broader coverage.

Installation of the bow protector can be done in two ways. For a no-drill installation, you can use a high-strength marine adhesive/sealant (such as Sikaflex) to bond the stainless plate securely and watertightly to the bow – it’s recommended to lightly sand and degrease the surface beforehand for optimum adhesion. Alternatively, the protector can be fastened with a few countersunk stainless steel screws or rivets; the screw heads can be filled and polished over to maintain a smooth finish.

The benefits of this INOX bow shield are significant: when retrieving the anchor, the shank and chain often strike and scrape the bow – the stainless guard takes those hits, preventing chips or gouges in your gelcoat. Additionally, in choppy waters or if debris is encountered, the bow is the first point of impact – the metal protector adds reinforcement exactly where it’s most needed. The gleaming polished finish not only serves a purpose but also enhances the look of your bow with a professional, high-end touch.

Applications and recommendations:

  • Anchor protection: Highly recommended for boats that anchor frequently – it eliminates damage from the anchor or chain rubbing against the bow, which could otherwise lead to rust stains or fiberglass blistering
  • Trailering: When loading or unloading on a trailer, the bow often presses into bow rollers – the INOX plate will bear this friction instead of your hull, preventing wear in the gelcoat
  • Compatibility: Suitable for most hull materials – fiberglass, wood, aluminum. It can be slightly bent/shaped by hand or mallet to match the exact angle of your bow for a custom fit
  • Maintenance: Requires minimal upkeep – simply rinse with fresh water after use; occasionally apply stainless steel polish to retain its mirror shine
  • Tip: If bonding with adhesive, use tape or clamps to hold the protector in place for 24 hours while the adhesive cures. If drilling, seal any screw holes with bedding compound before tightening the fasteners to ensure no water can seep behind the plate
