This brass push-button switch offers both a traditional look and robust functionality for marine applications. Constructed entirely from marine-grade brass and then chrome-plated, it resists corrosion while maintaining an attractive finish. The switch is of the momentary type – it is normally in the OFF (open) position and closes the circuit only while the button is pressed. This makes it perfectly suited for functions like horn buttons, starter buttons, or any application where you need a circuit active only on command. It includes a black rubber cap that covers the push button; this cap seals out water and dirt, giving the switch an IP protection (commonly to IP65 or more when used with the cap) and also providing a non-slip surface for your finger. The rubber cap also protects the metal underneath from direct weather exposure, extending the life of the switch. The mounting is straightforward: the switch body has a threaded neck (approximately 16 mm diameter thread) that fits into a 22 mm diameter panel hole, and you secure it with a nut from the backside. With an overall length of around 32 mm, it snugly fits in dash panels or consoles. On the back, there are two screw terminals or solder lugs for electrical connections (polarity doesn’t matter for the switch function). This brass button is rated for 12V DC and can handle high inrush currents – often used for starter circuits or horn relays, it’s built to manage the brief surge when you press it. The tactile feel is firm: you’ll feel a solid spring resistance and a definite action when pressed. Upon release, the internal spring instantly opens the circuit, and the button pops back out under the sealed cap. Being a brass mechanical device, it has excellent heat tolerance and won’t deform under high current like some plastic switches might. It’s often referred to as an “engine push button” or “brass horn switch” in marine catalogs. Installation tip: ensure the panel surface is flat and clear of grease; when tightening the securing nut, align the rubber cap so it sits evenly. If the switch is used as a direct starter button, it’s recommended to use it through a relay or solenoid (as is typical in engine start circuits) to avoid excessive current directly through the contacts beyond their rating. As a horn switch, it can usually drive the horn directly given a typical horn’s current draw. Overall, if you are refitting a classic boat or just prefer the reliability of an old-school brass switch, this push-button provides a dependable solution with a heritage aesthetic – a sturdy click each time you sound the horn or fire up the engine.
