Two-component transparent wood varnish Sea-Line® POLYURETHAN CLEAR COAT

Code:
300006749

A premium two-component (2K) clear wood varnish that provides an extremely durable, long-lasting high-gloss finish. Sea-Line Polyurethane Clear Coat 2K protects wooden surfaces without the need for a separate primer, offers strong UV and weather resistance, and has a thixotropic formula that prevents running even on vertical surfaces.

  • Two-component varnish (mix 2:1 with hardener) – ultra high gloss finish with maximum coating strength
  • UV and weather resistant – long-term protection for wood against sun, saltwater, and rain, with no yellowing or cracking
  • High mechanical strength and wear resistance – suitable for heavily used surfaces (decks, handrails)
  • No-sag on vertical surfaces – special thixotropy keeps the varnish in place for an even coat
  • Dual-purpose: can be thinned and used as a sealing primer, and used unthinned as a mirror-gloss topcoat

Sea-Line Polyurethane Clear Coat 2K is a top-of-the-line two-component transparent varnish designed to provide a luxurious high-gloss finish and exceptional protection for wooden elements on boats and yachts. This varnish combines hardness and flexibility – hallmarks of polyurethane systems – enabling it to withstand harsh marine conditions while maintaining a flawless appearance.

Unlike single-component varnishes, a 2K system requires mixing a base (Component A) and a hardener (Component B) in a 2:1 ratio (by volume). The Sea-Line kit comes with both components, and the containers are designed with headspace to allow mixing directly in the can – convenient with no extra pot needed. The mixed varnish has roughly a 3-hour pot life at 20°C, giving you ample application time. This is enough time to work comfortably, yet indicates a relatively quick initial cure – an advantage when applying multiple coats in a day.

Sea-Line 2K Clear Coat is characterized by a high solids content, which results in a rich, dense glossy film after curing. No separate primer is required before varnishing – this product can be applied directly onto well-prepared (sanded and dust-free) wood or over an epoxy primer if one is used. In fact, the first coat is often thinned (e.g., 10-20% with the appropriate brush/roll or spray thinner) to help it soak into the wood, effectively acting as a sealer/primer. Subsequent coats are applied unthinned, building up a mirror-like topcoat.

The formula is enhanced with UV filters and non-yellowing resins, meaning that even after years of sun exposure, the varnish remains clear and the wood’s true color shows through. The cured coating is extremely resistant to mechanical wear – abrasion, scratches, impacts – which is crucial for surfaces like decks that are walked on, or handrails that see frequent use. Additionally, the varnish exhibits strong chemical resistance to spilled fuel, cleaners, and saltwater.

Sea-Line Polyurethane Clear Coat has a thixotropic nature that prevents sagging. This allows you to apply relatively thick wet coats even on vertical surfaces like cabin sides or hull topsides without the danger of drips or “curtains.” As a result, each coat can dry evenly and produce a smooth surface.

Application and tips:

  • Luxury Yacht Finish: This 2K varnish is ideal when an exhibition-quality finish is desired on wooden components – for example, when restoring classic boats, coating teak decks, or varnishing exterior and interior yacht woodwork where a deep, wet-look gloss is prized. It adds a rich shine that enhances the prestige of fine wood.
  • Thinning & Tools: Depending on your application method, use the recommended thinner: Sea-Line Brush/Roll Thinner for manual application or Sea-Line Spray Thinner for spray application. Typically, the first coat can be thinned ~15-20% (brush/roller) or ~45-50% (spray) to ensure good wetting and penetration. Apply subsequent coats unthinned to maximize film build and gloss.
  • Coating Process: Generally, 2 to 4 coats of the 2K varnish are applied. You can work “wet-on-wet” – meaning the second coat is applied about 20-30 minutes (but no more than 1-2 hours) after the first, without intermediate sanding, to achieve chemical bonding between layers. If this window is missed, allow the coat to fully dry, then lightly sand before applying the next coat.
  • Full Cure Time: The coating is dry to the touch in about 3 hours, but it reaches its full hardness in approximately 7 days (at 20°C). After this full cure, the varnish can be polished to an even more mirror-like finish if desired, and it will endure serious wear and tear. Tip: Plan your varnish job so that the final coat has sufficient time to fully cure before the boat is put back into service or exposed to harsh conditions.
