Sea-Line Spray Thinner for Polyurethane Paints – 1L

Code:
5747

Thinner for two-component polyurethane paints and varnishes when applied by spray gun. Sea-Line Spray Thinner 2K ensures ideal viscosity for fine atomization, fast evaporation, and a smooth finish with no runs or haze.

  • Specially formulated for spraying 2K polyurethanes – provides correct viscosity for a consistent spray pattern
  • Improves flow and leveling – the final coat lays down smooth and even with a high gloss finish
  • Prevents paint sagging on verticals – thixotropic effect controls film build without drips or runs
  • Fast evaporation for quicker flash-off between coats – saves time on multi-coat (wet-on-wet) applications
  • Ensures complete chemical compatibility with Sea-Line products – avoids risks of blushing, poor adhesion, or drying defects

Sea-Line Spray Thinner for Polyurethane is a key ingredient for achieving professional results when spraying two-component polyurethane paints and clear coats. Getting the paint’s viscosity right for spraying is critical – if the paint is too thick, the gun won’t atomize it well, leading to orange peel or uneven coverage; if it’s over-thinned with an improper solvent, you might get runs, blushing (cloudiness), or extended drying times. Sea-Line Spray Thinner 2K is formulated to prevent these issues by providing the optimal balance.

When you add this thinner to a 2K polyurethane paint or varnish (typically in a proportion of 20-50%, depending on the specific product and conditions), you ensure that the paint will emerge from the nozzle as a fine spray that wets the surface uniformly. The thinner helps to create a smooth wet film that then self-levels before it begins to cure. Thus, the final result is a coating with a very high gloss, free of rough texture or dry spray areas.

Sea-Line Spray Thinner is composed for fast evaporation. This means that once the paint hits the surface, the solvent evaporates quickly enough not to unnecessarily prolong the flash-off and drying time between coats. You can apply the next coat (or the second component of a system, e.g., clear over basecoat) after a short interval, as specified by the manufacturer, without the risk of trapped solvent in the underlying layer. Quick flash-off also reduces the chance of dust settling on slow-drying paint (since each layer spends less time tacky).

At the same time, the thinner maintains the mixture’s thixotropic properties, which is crucial for vertical surfaces – the paint does not run even when applied in a reasonably heavy wet coat, because the viscosity climbs slightly once the paint is at rest on the surface. This gives you the control and flexibility to lay on a thick coat without fear of sagging “curtains.”

Using the original Sea-Line spray thinner eliminates issues like lacquer blushing that can occur with inappropriate thinners, especially in humid conditions. It contains no unwanted impurities and is tested for compatibility, ensuring that the paint cures correctly and intercoat adhesion is optimal.

Applications and spraying tips:

  • 2K Paints and Clears: Use this thinner when spraying Sea-Line Polyurethane Topcoat (colored paint) and Sea-Line High-Gloss Clear Coat (varnish), as well as other 2K coatings in the Sea-Line range. Follow the recommended thinning percentages: for example, around ~50% for the colored topcoat, ~15-20% when using the clear coat in primer mode (PRIMER function), or ~0-20% as a topcoat (TOPCOAT function), as indicated in the technical data sheets.
  • Application Technique: Always strain your paint before spraying and mix thoroughly after adding thinner. Apply a light tack coat first, then one or two full wet coats. The thinner will ensure excellent intercoat adhesion if you respect the specified flash times. Tip: Work with the appropriate gun setup (e.g., 1.3-1.4 mm tip for paint) and air pressure to achieve the best atomization.
  • Environmental Conditions: In humid conditions, Sea-Line Spray Thinner helps to prevent lacquer hazing by speeding up drying. Nevertheless, it’s advisable to spray in dry weather or controlled conditions. In very hot temperatures (>30°C), you may slightly increase the thinner ratio to compensate for excessively fast evaporation (to maintain a wet edge).
  • Use vs. Brush Thinner: Note that Sea-Line provides separate thinners for brushing and spraying. Spray Thinner evaporates faster and is the ideal choice for spray applications. Do not substitute it with generic thinners – you risk finish defects. If you need to apply a polyurethane clear by brush or roller, use the Brush/Roll Thinner instead of the Spray Thinner for best results with those methods.
