The Honda BF135D delivers 135 HP of power combined with Honda’s renowned 4-stroke reliability. Sharing the large 2,354cc engine platform with the bigger 150HP model, the BF135 strikes an excellent balance between torque and fuel economy. It’s an ideal choice for boats that need a step up from 115HP but in a slightly lighter package.

  • 2.4L inline-4 DOHC engine – powerful platform shared with Honda’s 150HP flagship
  • Dual Stage Induction – two-stage intake system for optimal performance at low and high RPM
  • Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) – precise EFI for quick throttle response and efficiency
  • BLAST and ECOmo systems – strong low-end torque for acceleration, lean burn for reduced cruise fuel use
  • 55A alternator – high-output charging for onboard electronics and batteries

Honda’s BF135D uses the same large 2.354L engine block as the top-of-the-line BF150, but tuned to deliver 135 HP. This means you get a substantial reserve of power and torque packaged at a slightly lower peak output – which can be advantageous for lighter hulls or achieving optimal fuel efficiency. The long-stroke design and ample displacement give the BF135 plenty of grunt out of the hole and strong mid-range pull for cruising at lower RPM.

The Dual Stage Induction technology sets the BF135 apart. This system employs two sets of intake runners – long runners to boost torque at low rpm, and a second set of shorter, straight runners that open at higher rpm to let the engine breathe freely. The result is smooth power delivery at every point in the rev range, with no flat spots transitioning from low to high rpm.

Naturally, the BF135D is equipped with Honda’s proven PGM-FI electronic fuel injection and ignition systems, which ensure reliable starts and an optimal fuel mixture at all times. The BLAST and ECOmo systems are on board as well – BLAST aids in spirited acceleration from a standstill, while ECOmo keeps fuel consumption low during steady cruising. A triple cooling system keeps the engine cool even under full load.

To power all your onboard devices, the BF135 comes with a beefy 55A alternator. This ensures that even during night runs with lights, electronics, and pumps running, your battery stays charged. The robust gearcase and multi-layer anti-corrosion coating (combined with sacrificial anodes) provide reliability and a long lifespan when operating in saltwater. The BF135 also meets current environmental standards for low emissions, making it a modern and “clean” marine engine.

  • Well-Suited For: Boats around 6–7 m that seek a balance between speed and efficiency – for example, larger RIBs, cruising runabouts, and sport fishing boats.
  • Upgrade Advantage: An excellent step up from a 115 HP engine, providing roughly 15% more power without a significant increase in weight or size. This gives your boat greater speed and load-carrying ability while still maintaining good fuel economy.
  • Variants: Available in 20″ or 25″ shaft lengths to match your transom height. On the latest models, an electronic throttle/shift option (iST drive-by-wire) is offered for even smoother control.
  • Why Choose BF135: For those who want flagship 150HP technologies at a more accessible horsepower – the BF135 delivers the same rugged build, the same large-engine platform, and legendary Honda reliability, all backed by a 5-year warranty.
