Stainless Bimini Top End Fitting – Extended (for Ø22 mm or Ø25 mm Tube)

Code:
03831-1

A high-quality stainless steel end fitting for boat canopies (bimini tops) – an extended style for Ø22 mm or Ø25 mm tubes. This component replaces or upgrades standard plastic tips, providing a stronger connection and greater clearance when folding. Key features:

  • AISI 316 stainless steel: Polished to a shine, fully corrosion-resistant – ensures reliability and a sleek look.
  • Available in 2 sizes: Model 03831-1 fits Ø22 mm (7/8") tubing, and model 03831-2 fits Ø25 mm (1") tubing. Covers the most common bimini frame diameters.
  • Extended design: A longer neck on the fitting allows a wider folding angle and extra clearance – prevents the canvas or frame from hitting the boat when lowered.
  • Secure connection: Precisely drilled hole for the securing bolt/pin (standard ~6 mm) that provides a tight hinge joint with the deck hinge. No unwanted play or rattle in waves.
  • Easy installation: Inserts into the tube end and locks with a screw or rivet. Ideal for replacing broken tips or upgrading from plastic to metal.

This stainless steel end fitting (also known as a jaw or eye end) is a crucial part of any bimini or canopy, as it connects the frame of the top to the boat’s mounting point (deck hinge, side mount, etc.). This model features an "extended neck" – meaning the metal portion between the tube insertion point and the eye (the hole for the pin) is longer than on standard fittings. This brings several benefits: it increases the angle at which the bimini can fold down, and it keeps the canvas/frame a bit further away from the boat’s gunwale or console when the top is folded, reducing the risk of rubbing or hitting.

Material and build: The fitting is made of marine-grade AISI 316 stainless steel, which guarantees excellent long-term corrosion resistance. The surface is polished to a mirror finish – not only does this give it a premium appearance, but it also resists dirt and salt buildup. The inside diameter of the fitting’s socket is precisely sized for the respective tube (22 mm or 25 mm), ensuring a snug fit. When properly installed (with a locking screw or rivet), this end fitting becomes an integral part of the frame with no wobble, which is key for the bimini’s stability.

Compatibility – two sizes: Two versions are available:

  • 03831-1: For Ø22 mm tubes (the standard aluminum/stainless tubing used in small and mid-size biminis).
  • 03831-2: For Ø25 mm tubes (thicker tubing found in larger biminis and some yacht tops).

Both sizes share the same design and functionality; the difference is solely the internal diameter (and slight length adjustments accordingly). If unsure of your tube size, you can measure the diameter or check your bimini’s specifications.

Installation and use: Installing this fitting is straightforward. The old end fitting (if broken or plastic) is removed – typically it’s held by a small screw or rivet to the frame tube. Then the new stainless fitting is inserted – it should slide in firmly into the tube. It’s recommended to drill a small pilot hole through the tube matching the fitting’s pre-drilled hole, and secure it with a stainless screw and nut or a pop rivet. There’s also an option for a set screw (grub screw) if you prefer a flush finish – some fittings are threaded to accept one. After installation, the eye of the fitting (with the cross-hole) should align with the mating deck fitting on the boat. The standard cross-hole is about 6 mm in diameter, which fits most bimini hardware – a clevis pin or quick-release pin goes through to connect the bimini to the deck hinge. Our fitting is precisely drilled, so the bolt/pin passes snugly, eliminating any slop or chatter.

Practical improvements: By replacing plastic end fittings with these stainless models, you greatly enhance the reliability of your canopy. Plastic parts can crack from UV exposure over time or break under sudden stress (such as a gust of wind). Stainless end fittings eliminate this weak point. Moreover, the extended design helps in specific situations: for instance, if previously your bimini frame would hit against rails or seats when lowering, now that is minimized. The longer neck also makes it easier to fasten to the deck hinge, as it provides a bit more room to work the pin through.

These fittings are often sold and installed in pairs or sets of four – to retrofit the entire bimini frame (2 front and 2 rear struts). It’s advisable to replace all end fittings at once, so you have uniform strength and appearance. With stainless extended end fittings, your bimini top will be ready to withstand the rigors of marine use and will operate more smoothly during folding and unfolding.
