This fuel filter-water separator (Osculati 17.660.40) is designed to provide reliable fuel filtration for both gasoline and diesel engines. Combining water separation and particle filtration, the filter shields your engine from two major threats – moisture in fuel and mechanical impurities. The 10-micron filter element effectively stops fine rust particles, varnish deposits, and other debris, preventing clogging of fuel injectors and downstream filters. If water is present in the fuel, the separator isolates it (water settles at the bottom of the filter’s cup or bowl), ensuring the fuel that continues to the engine is dry and clean. The filter’s plastic head is resistant to impact and corrosion, and significantly reduces weight compared to metal heads without sacrificing strength. Mounting holes allow easy attachment to a bulkhead or engine bay. The kit includes conical self-locking hose adapters for 10 mm fuel lines, which provide a tight seal without the need for hose clamps (their special tapered design self-seals the connection). This filter assembly supports a flow rate of 182 L/h at low pressure drop (0.49 PSI) and up to 404 L/h at higher pressure (2.45 PSI), making it suitable for engines with substantial fuel consumption. For convenience, a spare filter cartridge (code 17.660.45) is included, so you have a replacement on hand when needed. This filter is equivalent to OEM filters used by Mercury (it can replace, for example, Mercury part numbers 35-60494A4 / 35-802893Q / 35-807172, etc.), meaning it can serve as a direct substitute in existing systems.
- Application & Benefits: The filter-separator with plastic head is an excellent solution for yachts, cruisers, and boats with mid-range inboard or outboard engines (e.g., inline 4-6 cylinder engines), and even for higher-power V8 gasoline motors, as long as their combined fuel draw is within ~400 L/h. It’s suitable for installation in the fuel line of almost any engine – from a diesel generator or onboard heater to the main engine of a powerboat. The plastic head offers the advantage of never rusting, which is especially valuable for open boats and saltwater conditions. We recommend regular replacement of the filter cartridge – the manufacturer suggests about every 100 hours or once a year, whichever comes first, or more frequently if you’re using fuel of questionable quality. Watch for any drop in power or difficulty starting – that can be a sign the filter is saturated and needs changing. With this product, you’re providing your engine a professional level of protection, comparable to the equipment on many modern motor yachts.
