Plastic Boat Drain Plug Ø50 mm with Locking Hasp – Transom Drain Plug

Code:
03561-R

Plastic boat drain plug with a Ø50 mm drain diameter, equipped with an integrated hasp-type locking mechanism for a secure seal. Made of high-quality UV-resistant polymer that won’t corrode in saltwater. Ideal for installation on the transom or bottom of small to medium boats (including RIBs and jet skis), it allows easy drainage of accumulated water when the boat is on land.

  • Ø50 mm opening – a standard drain size for many boats and personal watercraft
  • Locking cap design – features a latch mechanism to prevent accidental opening while underway
  • Durable plastic construction – non-corrosive, UV-stable, and impact-resistant for long service life
  • Easy to use – quick to plug in or remove; locking tab keeps the plug attached so it won’t get lost
  • Wide application – suitable as a transom drain plug, for self-bailing cockpit drains, deck drains, and more

This plastic drain plug is designed to provide a secure seal for the water drainage holes in a boat’s hull, while also allowing quick and easy opening to release water when needed. It fits a 50 mm diameter opening – one of the most common drain plug sizes on small and medium boats and jet skis.

The key feature of this plug is the integrated hasp-style locking mechanism. This mechanism is a small movable clasp or tab on the plug itself, which locks the plug into its base when in the closed position. This ensures that the plug cannot shake loose or back out due to vibration or water movement, preventing unintended opening while the boat is underway. When it’s time to drain water, you simply flip or release the hasp and pull the plug out to let the water flow. The plug typically remains attached to the base via the hasp linkage, so it won’t drop into the water and get lost.

The unit is made from durable plastic (e.g., ABS) that will not rust or be damaged by saltwater. The material is UV-stabilized, meaning long-term exposure to sunlight won’t cause it to crack or become brittle. This “plastic with hasp” construction ensures that the drain hole stays securely closed when you need it to and opens only when you intend to.

A common application for this Ø50 mm plug is on the boat’s transom – this is the drain hole you close before launching the boat and open after pulling the boat out of the water to let any internal water drain. Many fishing boats and RIBs also use similar plugs to drain self-bailing cockpits or various livewells and compartments. Despite having a locking mechanism, the plug is easy to open even with one hand – the design is simple for quick operation in boating conditions.

Recommendations:

  • Always verify that the drain plug is properly inserted and locked before launching your boat. This is part of the standard pre-launch checklist – a poorly seated or missing transom plug can lead to serious water ingress. Double-check that the hasp is engaged to secure the plug
  • Keep the plug’s sealing surface (and rubber O-ring or gasket, if equipped) clean. Sand, mud, or debris on the sealing area can cause a slight leak or make it harder to close. If the gasket is worn or damaged, replace it in a timely manner
  • This Ø50 mm plug fits a variety of vessels – from small motorboats and fishing skiffs to personal watercraft. Make sure the size matches your boat’s factory drain hole (measure the diameter if the old plug is removed)
  • It’s advisable to carry a spare plug, especially on longer trips. Although the mechanism is reliable, losing or breaking a plug when you’re away from the dock could create a dangerous situation. Having a backup will provide peace of mind
  • If storing the boat outdoors on a trailer or lift, you can leave the plug out/open to allow rainwater to drain freely. This prevents water accumulation in the hull and potential freeze damage in winter. Just remember to re-install and lock the plug before the next launch!
