Introducing our range of chrome-plated brass grommets, which will turn an ordinary canvas into a reliable and user-friendly cover. Grommets (also known as eyelets) are used to create strong holes in fabric through which ropes, bungees, or hooks can be run for tensioning. Our grommets are made of brass – a metal renowned for its excellent resistance to corrosion – and are further coated with a layer of chrome, giving them a mirror-like shine and additional protection. This means that even after prolonged exposure to rain, sun, and salt, the grommets won’t rust or degrade in appearance.

We offer an assortment of inner hole sizes so you can choose the one best suited for your application:

  • Ø8 mm: Small grommets suited for thin cords, small diameter ropes, or shock cords (for example, for securing a light cover or tarp where a large hole isn’t needed).
  • Ø12 mm: A versatile medium size – used for standard ropes around 10 mm or common bungee cords. Often found on canvas covers for mid-sized boats.
  • Ø15 mm & Ø16 mm: Larger grommets for heavy-duty use – openings of this diameter accommodate thicker ropes, heavy-duty elastic tie-downs with hooks, or even metal clips. Choose 15 or 16 mm based on your specific fittings; the difference is slight but provides an option to best match your hardware. These sizes are ideal for big awnings and tarps that require strong tension.
  • Ø19 mm: The largest grommet in the series – meant for extremely robust applications. A 19 mm hole can take a very thick rope, webbing strap, or special tie-down band. It’s an excellent choice for industrial curtains, large boats and yachts, RV covers, etc., where the widest, most reinforced opening is needed.

Installation: Grommets are set by mechanically pressing the two parts together with a grommet tool or die set. In each kit you receive the grommet ring (flanged eyelet) and the matching washer (backing ring). The process is as follows: punch or cut a hole in the fabric (slightly smaller than the grommet’s diameter), insert the grommet from the top (finished side) and the washer from the bottom side of the material, then use a punch or press to crimp them – the grommet’s barrel flares out over the washer, locking the two pieces together. The result is a smooth, reinforced eyelet.

Use Cases: Once the grommets are installed, you can thread ropes or bungees through them to secure the cover to your boat or structure. For example, a cover fitted with grommets can be laced with rope in a zig-zag through deck cleats or secured with bungee cords to hooks. Thanks to the metal-reinforced holes, you can tension the fabric much more firmly without the risk of the material tearing at the stress points. Chrome brass grommets not only ensure functionality but also look sleek – the shiny rings give your canvas or cover a finished, professional appearance. These are the same high-quality eyelets used by professional sailmakers and canvas shops, ensuring that your equipment will withstand the tests of time and the elements.
