This 90-degree 1/2” threaded pump fitting (code 03822-4) is intended for situations where you need to connect a water pump to another threaded apparatus at a right angle. Instead of a hose barb, this connector provides a threaded union – ideal if you are using rigid piping (PVC, metal) or have a filter, valve, or manifold directly on the pump output. The fitting is constructed from a high-quality polymer engineered for marine conditions, combining light weight and strength.
Thread Details: One end of the fitting is a 1/2” female thread, which can screw onto a 1/2” male thread, such as the outlet of many pumps (some pumps come with a fixed threaded nipple). The other end of the fitting is a 1/2” male thread, allowing you to screw on additional equipment: for example, an adapter to hard pipe, a filter housing, a faucet, or a T-connector. The threads are typically standard BSP (parallel pipe thread), commonly used in marine plumbing systems.
Applications:
- Connecting to Hard Plumbing: If your boat has a plumbed water system with fixed piping, this fitting allows the pump to connect to a pipe at an angle without needing a flexible hose. This can be useful for reducing vibrations and maintaining a very secure connection that doesn’t flex.
- Mounting a Filter: Many water pumps have an intake strainer or filter. If the filter has a side port or needs to be oriented at a certain angle relative to the pump, a 90° threaded connector makes installation easier – for example, attaching an inlet filter right before the pump, even in cramped quarters.
- Compact System Layouts: In small systems (like in RVs or compact boats) where the pump, pipes, and fittings are all in close proximity, this fitting helps “turn” the connection in the needed direction without putting strain on the components.
- Pumps with Fixed Nipples: Some pumps have an integrated straight outlet or thread that points in an inconvenient direction. Rather than struggling with an awkward hose loop, you can screw on this elbow adapter to achieve the desired orientation for your plumbing.
Installation & Sealing: Screw the female threaded end of the fitting onto the existing 1/2” male thread (such as on the pump or another component). Use a suitable sealant – Teflon tape or liquid thread sealant – to ensure a watertight connection. Then attach the corresponding component to the fitting’s male thread (for example, a pipe adapter or filter inlet), again using sealant. Tighten the connections with a wrench snugly but avoid over-tightening which could damage the plastic fitting.
Why a plastic fitting? Polymer fittings are often preferred in marine applications because they won’t rust, won’t cause galvanic corrosion when mated with other metals, and can absorb vibrations (having a slight flex). This fitting will not add extra weight or stress to the pump assembly.
By using a 90° threaded connector, you gain flexibility in configuring your boat’s water system. This product allows you to arrange pump connections to fit your space constraints without sacrificing reliability or flow capacity.
